Boron is closely related to the internal functions of the plant, including, for example, the resurrection of delaying the appearance of symptoms of calcium deficiency in plants.
Although it does not perform the same function as calcium.
The main functions of boron in plants are:
1. Preserve dissolved calcium.
2. Regulate the balance between calcium and potassium in the plant.
3. Regulating nitrogen absorption.
4. Boron also has a relationship with transporting sugars inside the plant.
Boron problems and its absorption:
Boron absorption is affected by the presence of a high percentage of lime in the soil, which works to limit its absorption. Boron is also affected by drought, which reduces its absorption.
On the other hand, sandy soils lack this element.
Effect of Boron Deficiency on Plant Synthesis:
The decay of the meristematic tissue, including the cambium, the breakdown of the walls of parenchyma cells, and a weakness in the formation of the vascular system, especially the xylem tissue, are caused by this element. However, when the concentration of this element is increased, whether in the soil or in the foliar fertilizers, this leads to yellowing of the growing tops of the leaves, local death of the tissues, burning of the leaves, and then they fall.
Boron deficiency symptoms
a. General symptoms:
Poor growth and death of the developing tops of the stem and roots.
B- Examples of symptoms of boron deficiency in some vegetable plants
1. Heart rot of beet.
1- Beet rot heart shows this. The show is in the middle of the plant's age or shortly thereafter, as it appears on the inner leaves, which show discoloration and then turn black.
And you die. This is followed by dry rot on the root, starting from the apex. This results in severe crop failure and low sugar content in the roots.
2. Brown Heart of Turnip
Brown spots or areas appear inside the roots when cut without showing at the surface.
External symptoms at the root.
3. Browning of cauliflower
It appears as scattered spots on the pink disc of cauliflower, which turns brown and complex and may rot in wet weather. The leaves show symptoms of yellowing, especially on the top of the old leaves. The root systems of affected plants also appear weak. Cracks and long indentations occur inside the stem. Infected cauliflower has a bitter taste.
4. Cracked stem of celery
Brown spots appear on the leaves, especially at the edges. Cracks occur transversely, and the central vein extends outwards and takes on a brown color.
Where the roots turn brown and then die.
Boron deficiency must be addressed.
1. Spray the plants with an aqueous borax solution at 3 kg per 100 gallons of water.
2. Fortifying the soil with boron from its various compounds.
Effect of excessive boron fertilization:
• The tops of the leaves turn yellow, and some parts die.
• Leaves burn and then fall off the plant.
